The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes “clear trends of deterioration of the situation” regarding the observation process of human rights in Transnistrian region. According to INFOTAG quating the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday, Secretary of State Vladimir Cuc met with representatives of the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) of the Council of Europe (CoE). The officals discussed the execution of ECtHR judgments, in particular, regarding cases in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

The Secretary of State confirmed the importance of keeping these cases on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers on Human Rights of the CoE, taking into account the mandatory nature of the execution of ECtHR judgments.

“Public communication on these cases is no less important to prevent ongoing human rights violations in the Transnistrian region, as in recent years, clear trends of deterioration of the situation are evident, CuC said.

During the meeting, the Lipovchenko and Galabudenko vs Republic of Moldova and Russian Federation case was discussed (ECtHR found Russia guilty, but not Moldova - INFOTAG).

The Moldovan diplomat emphasized that Moldova's progress towards EU accession would strengthen mechanisms for protecting and guaranteeing human rights, which could reduce the number of cases referred to the ECtHR.

The Head of the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the ECtHR, Claire Ovi, thanked the Moldovan authorities for their openness to dialogue and active cooperation.

Representatives of the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the ECtHR are visiting Moldova to familiarize themselves with the progress of execution and problems identified in the process of executing the Court's judgments.
