PRESIDENT DENIES RUMORS THAT UKRAINE OFFERED MOLDOVA TO SOLVE TRANSNISTRIAN ISSUE MILITARILY

07 may, 2024

President Maia Sandu has denied rumors that Ukraine offered Moldova to solve the Transnistrian issue militarily. She said this in an interview with Russian journalist Yury Dud.

"With all responsibility I tell you that officially there was never such a proposal. And not officially either. There was no such proposal from (Ukrainian) officials... We have always said, and we will continue to say, that a solution to the Transnistrian conflict can only be achieved peacefully. Militarily, we will not agree, only peacefully. Peace is very important for us," Sandu said.

She also commented on the situation with the ammunition depots in Colbasna.

"(Since) there is a separatist regime in Transnistria, the constitutional authorities cannot check what is there, that is, we can only guess... From the first day of my mandate, we tried to solve this issue with the Russian Federation, we said that it is necessary to destroy what is in this warehouse. The RF was open, but in the end we didn't come to any solution. That's a problem. But there are no such talks for Ukraine to get access (to the warehouses) because Ukraine respects our territorial integrity... ", - she stressed.
