Had a parliamentary election been held on a nearest Sunday, the opposition Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) would get much more votes than any other party or movement – 47.5%. The Liberal Democratic Party would win 26.1%, the Democratic Party 11.6%, the Liberal Party 9.2% and Igor Dodon-headed Socialist Party 1.9%, as per the Vox Populi opinion poll, carried out by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers in January 9 through 18. The research covered 1,587 respondents. Its statistic error should not exceed ±2.6%.

Prominent Moldovan political scientists and analysts – Moldovan political scientist Dr. Igor Botan, Chairman of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT), Institute of Public Policies (IPP) Director Arcadie Barbarosie, Director of the independent Moldovan Institute of Euro-Integration and Political Studies Viorel Cibotaru, Institute of Public Policies (IPP) Program Director, political analyst and ex-parliamentarian Oazu Nantoi, Eugen Revenco – Program Director of the Moldovan Association for External Policy (APE), Chisinau political scientist Vitaly Andrievsky, and analyst Alexandru Solcan have stood up with a joint appeal to the incumbent Moldovan authorities to give up the constitutional referendum idea and resume the constitutional process of electing president in parliament.
