THE PACKAGE OF LAWS ON THE STATUS OF GAGAUZIA CAUSES DISPUTES OF DEPUTIES

03 december, 2020

A package of three laws on the status of Gagauzia was included in the parliamentary agenda on Thursday, which sparked controversy among deputies. Parlaiment vice Speaker Alexander Slusari said that “the projects have not received a positive conclusion from the government.”

“We urge these laws to be removed from the agenda, as they pose a threat to national security and open the way for the federalization of Moldova,” he stressed.

Socialist MP Alexander Suhodolschi considers it “wrong that projects related to strengthening autonomy” are called “a risk to statehood and the constitutional order.”

“Very serious experts worked on these projects, who very clearly showed and proved at various platforms that all the norms of the 1994 law on the legal status of Gagauzia were spelled out there,” the deputy stated.

Despite opposition objections, the bills were included in the agenda.
